Rest in peace, Greta Garbo.
Giulietta Masina passed away on March 23, 1994 — a few months after her husband Fellini.
Her last wish was to have the theme music from La Strada played at her funeral. She was buried wearing the paillettes evening gown she wore at the Oscars. Between her hands a picture of Federico and a rose.RIP Giulietta Masina

Dame Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor | February 27, 1932 - March 23, 2011
I’ve been through it all, baby, I’m mother courage.
One year ago today, we lost one of our greatest treasures. Dame Elizabeth Taylor wasn’t just a two-time Academy Award winning actress, who’s performance in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? ranks undoubtedly one of the best female performances of all time. She wasn’t just the woman who was married eight times to seven different men, including a socialite, two actors, a singer, a producer, a U.S. Senator and a construction worker. She was the love of Richard Burton’s life, the best friend of Montgomery Clift (and she saved his life after he got in a car accident by pulling a tooth out of his mouth when he was chocking on it), Michael Jackson, and so many others, and the mother of four beautiful children, as well as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the owner of one of the largest jewelry collections in the world. She was one of the first celebrities to have their own perfume line, and she started the trend of celebrity perfumes. But most importantly, she was a humanitarian. When Rock Hudson was dying and the AIDS epidemic first broke out, celebrities were instructed by their publicists to ignore it and not talk about it. But Elizabeth, realizing how wrong this was, became the very first public figure to speak up. And not only did she speak up, but she founded the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation and co-founded the National AIDS Research Council, which later merged into amFAR. She was the most beautiful woman in the world not only physically, but on the inside as well. After her death, she had her belongings tour the world (and I had the pleasure of seeing it), and then auctioned off for $300 million, with most of the proceeds going to AIDS research. When AIDS is finally eradicated, it will be in no small part due to Elizabeth’s work. Today, we mourn a legend, who’s presence on this earth improved the lives of millions. We honor her by not only watching her movies and fangirling/ fanboying over her boobs and relationship with Richard, but by continuing to fight for something she helped to start - the fight to end AIDS, the fight to improve the living conditions of many.

The next day, [Tracy] returned, visibly haggard, for his final scene— a process shot in which he and Hepburn take a drive to get some ice cream. It was a simple sequence that demanded little more from him than his physical presence and an easy bit of dialogue.
When his work was complete, assisstant director Ray Gosnell turned to the crew and said, “Ladies and Gentleman, this was Spencer Tracy’s last shot.” When he said that,” says Karen Kramer, “Stanley cried. It was the first and last time I ever saw him cry.” As the crew burst into applause, Tracy didn’t say anything. He just stepped out of the prop car, smiled broadly, waved, and walked slowly off the soundstage. Kramer watched him go and then said softly, “That is the last time you will see Spencer Tracy on camera.”

i regret to say that i know little of Jane or of her work, and i won’t pretend that i don’t; i’ve never really had a chance to watch more than a few films in which she starred. but when a classic actress passes away, whether i knew of them well or not, i can’t help but feel like there’s a certain emptiness in that fading world that i hold so close to my heart.

I'm Steffi, 20 years old, from Germany, living in NYC as an au pair, currently obsessing over Sutton Foster + Anything Goes. Judy Garland and Rita Hayworth are my queens. I love a lot of other people too, so be prepared :).
